Suffolk Village of the Year 2023

Parish Council September Meeting Report

The Parish Council met on Thursday 29th September

The main items discussed were as follows:

Thanks are due to Councillor Morley and Paul Brinkley for their work on the Gt Green bus shelter.

It was reported that the Greens are all in good condition with the village sign on Parsonage Green being identified as in need of refurbishment.

The RoSPA inspection of the play equipment on Gt Green has been completed successfully – the facility being found to be in a healthy condition with some recommendations for minor improvements.

Earl’s Meadow/Bruff’s Line is home to a family of barn owls and we have been advised by the experts that this is a sign we are getting it right. Steps are to installed down to the river by the nursery bed and a group of volunteers attended the annual Tree Forum just south of Norwich.

The last cemetery cut of the season is now due.

Two footpath signs on the airfield have been knocked down.

The work on the improved southbound bus stop at Mill Corner will take place over the two weeks starting 24th October. Howe Lane will be closed during the working day and two way traffic lights will be operative on the A1141.

The Highways Dept of Suffolk County Council has been requested to look at the incursion of the hedges on the railway bridge onto the verge and also to review the narrowing of footpaths along the A1141 through the expansion of the undergrowth.

Our District Councillor, Clive Arthey, advised that it is proposed to move Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils from their current bases in Hadleigh and Needham Market respectively to Endeavour House in Ipswich.

Mr Arthey also reminded us that everyone is required to complete the ‘Register of Electors’ forms which have been recently delivered.

The next meetings of the Parish Council will take place on Thursday 27th October and Thursday 24th November at 7.30 pm.
