Suffolk Village of the Year 2023

Cockfield Community Council News, October 2019

The November Country and Western Dance will be on Saturday 2 Nov with Julie Dawn, commencing 8pm. Tickets are on the door and are £6.00 each. The doors open at 7pm, the bar will open at 7.45pm and there will as ever be a BBQ.

As previously advised in Green Links the dances are due to come to an end in December so this penultimate dance is almost a last chance to attend these long running and popular dances.

There are now not many tickets left for the major event in the Autumn, an Evening with the Bee Gees Tribute Group on Saturday 16th November. This is likely to be a lively and popular evening! Tickets are available from Cockfield Post Office or from Janne on 01284 828264. If you leave it to the last moment to buy a ticket it is highly likely that the evening will have sold out (last year’s ABBA event was sold out and there were many disappointed people.)

A light supper will be included.

Waste Paper Collections continue on the last Sunday of the month, the next waste paper collection being on Sunday 24 November, as usual collections will start at 9.00 am. Please leave your papers out for the collectors in a prominent position. Proceeds from the collections go towards the running costs of the Pavilion and are therefore very valuable to the Village.

The Community Council AGM will take place on Fri 29 November. The Community Council relies on volunteers and we are always looking for people to join the Trustees and bring new ideas. There are  6 meetings every year, and we are a very welcoming group.  Do please speak with any of the Trustees (details on the Village website) if you are interested in joining.

The year ends with Carols on the Green on 17 December.

The New Year begins on 1st January with our popular Hangover Hike, this is likely to start and finish at the Horseshoes, but this yet to be definitively confirmed.

Planning for 2020 is well underway with a number of events (a combination of new and old favourites) being firmed up. Early dates for your diary include:

  • Sat 22 Feb, Quiz Night with fish n chip supper
  • Sat 21 Mar, Swing Dance (building on this year’s inaugural event and which was a big success)
  • Sat 4 Apr, Charity Dance – in Memory of Paul Brinkley Dancing to Kenny Lee and Hustler
  • Sat 11 Apr, the Duck Race ! (hopefully the stream will have some water this time!)
