Suffolk Village of the Year 2023

Community Council News, September 2017

Cockfield Community Council News

Despite our worrying all week about what the weather would bring, the Cockfield Village Show passed without a drop of rain, although some of our stallholders were a little concerned about the effect of the strengthening winds on their marquees. In the end, the rain was forecast for 5pm and, guess what, dead on cue, at 4.55, just as we had finished clearing up, down it came! Opened by Joyce Cocksedge and ably compered by our MC, Ivan Green, the Show once again produced some fine entertainment from the children of Cockfield School, the Zumba girls and the Dog Show, not to mention the Punch and Judy Show and a display of Classic Cars. We also had a wide range of craft and gift stalls, charity stalls, our usual competitive events and, of course, our produce show – and if, after all that, refreshment was required, we had the barbecue, a licensed bar and teas and cakes.

Thanks as always to Barbara and Caroline Ruffell for opening their lovely grounds for The Show, all our helpers,  the stallholders and everyone who attended.

Cockfield Community Cinema

Please visit the Community Council / Cinema webpage for full details.

The shows have been really well supported since we started at the beginning of the year and we have worked hard to improve the experience, so thank you to everyone who has helped or attended as this means we can continue what has proved to be a popular social event.

 Country & Western Evening

On Saturday 7th October we welcome back Cardy & Coke, followed on Saturday 4th November by the return of Declan Gaynor. Tickets will be at the usual price of £6 on the door and there will, of course, be a bar and barbecue.

Quiz Night will be  on Saturday 18th November. Watch this space for more details.

Our AGM will take place on Friday 1st December in the Village Hall at 7.30. This is the meeting when we review the past year’s efforts and elect our Trustees and Officers. This year we will have vacancies for a number of new Trustees so if you would like to become involved in running this very active charity, which provides  resources and entertainment for the village, please let us know as nominations close one week before the meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend – please come along and show your support for the Community Council and maybe even get involved.

Carols on the Green is provisionally booked for 19th December

We have started work on next year’s events and are pleased to announce that comedian and ventriloquist, Richard Whymark will be back (with a Fish’n’Chip supper) on 21st April and we will welcome a well established ABBA tribute act on 17th November. All our usual events will also be in the programme, so watch this space for more information.

Details of all our events will appear in Green Links, the Village website, www.Cockfield.org.uk and will be circulated through our Community Council e-mail distribution list. If you wish to be included on the list, which is an excellent source of information about local events, please apply through the website or by e-mail to rod.portwood@btinternet.com

Waste paper collection

The next waste paper collections will be on Sunday 24th September and Sunday 29th October.  As usual, collections will start at 9.00 am. As always, these collections are an important source of funds for the Community Council so please leave your papers out for the collectors.
