Working Together Awards 2014

As an independent grant-maker, Suffolk Community Foundation supports local charities and community groups who are tackling disadvantage in whatever form it takes, targeting grants to where the needs are greatest.

Suffolk Community Foundation runs various funding programmes to support community groups operating in Suffolk. One of these, the Working Together Awards, provides funding to celebrate successful projects. Funded by Suffolk County Council, this awards programme provides awards of between £5,000 and £10,000 for community groups in Suffolk.

There are two categories of awards available for groups in Suffolk, the Community Awards and the Joint Working Awards, both of which are designed to celebrate outstanding projects in Suffolk.

The Community Awards are aimed at charitable organisations that have pulled together as a team to benefit the local community through high levels of community action and strong volunteer involvement, producing outstanding results. One of the winners from this category last year was Thornham Magna Community Open Spaces which created a beautiful play area for children and families in the village in conjunction with Thornham walks. Volunteers were involved at all stages of the construction and are still involved in the upkeep of the play area.

Similarly the Joint Working Awards also celebrates successful projects; however this award focuses on community groups that have worked in partnership with voluntary, public and private organisations to achieve positive results. In this category the charitable organisation will receive the financial award but all partners are acknowledged. Last year Community Action Suffolk received an award for its partnership working with Suffolk Congress in which they supported 50 voluntary sector organisations to improve their representation, influence and relationship with statutory and voluntary organisations.
