Suffolk Village of the Year 2023

Community Council News, October 2018

Cockfield Community Council wishes you all The Compliments of The Season and hopes you will join them for Carols on the Green on Tuesday 18th December at 7pm on Great Green (Village Hall if the weather is terrible). It’s an opportunity for the Village to get together in festive mood and signals that Christmas is nearly here, unfortunately the Norton Salvation Army Band cannot be with us this year but there will be rousing traditional carols followed by mulled wine and mince pies in the Pavilion.

Cockfield Community Cinema  usually on the fourth Friday of the month – in December it’s on the 14th A WEEK EARLIER DUE TO CHRISTMAS. We will be showing Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again – which should get Cockfield Rocking on its way to Christmas. Cockfield was certainly rocking on the 17th November when ABBA Authentic came to the Village Hall, over 100 people enjoyed a first class evening’s entertainment. If you wanted tickets but found they had all gone or if you would like another ABBA evening come along on the 14th. And talking of Christmas and the inevitable search for a new and interesting presents we are now offering Cinema Vouchers, and very smart they are too, prices are in multiples of film entries (£4.50 each) and you can buy for as many performances as you like. If you are interested please contact Julie on 07815 497952

Trailers for our films are on the cinema webpage so why not have a peek and see what’s coming up in the New Year.

The Country & Western Evenings are still the largest fund raiser for the Community Council and I am sure lots of you have never been, in December, on the 1st, it’s Country Law. And after a break in January they will be back in February on the 2nd. The dances start at 8pm and tickets are £6.00 on the door.

If you are reading this at the end of November do pop along to the Community Council AGM at the Village Hall on Friday 30th, after the formal business we have some social time when you can get to know the Trustees better. At the AGM the programme for 2019 will be unveiled. We have a few changes in store for the coming year which will be in next month’s Green Links.

If you have any ideas for events you would like to see in the Village do let a Trustee know, we are open to all suggestions.

Our First Event of the New Year on the 1st January is the

Hangover Hike, we will be hiking, at  a leisurely pace, on Cockfield’s Footpaths. Meet at the Pavilion  on Great  Green at 10.45, the walk usually lasts about an hour and  a half.

Details of all our events will appear in Green Links as well as here on the website and will be circulated through our Community Council   e-mail distribution list. If you wish to be included on the list, which is an excellent source of information about local events, please subscribe by following the link in the footer of any webpage.

Waste paper collection

The next waste paper collection will be on Sundays 25th November and  30th December. As usual, collections will start at 9.00 am. These collections are an important source of funds for the Community Council so please leave your papers out for the collectors. If you should find you have a lot of paper and card building up, as we all do at this time of year, you don’t have to wait for the last Sunday in the month to off load it, paper and cardboard  can always be dropped off at the Dutch Barn at Cockfield Hall.

With Best wishes for 2019 – Cockfield Community Council
