Suffolk Village of the Year 2023

Community Council News, November 2019

Firstly a recap on a wonderful evening on 16 November, an evening with the Bee Gees Tribute Group. The Village Hall was certainly rocking! Thank you to all who attended for making a great night out.

This is the second year running the Community Council have organised a Tribute Act, last year it was ABBA.  We are considering a similar evening next year, all feedback and thoughts would be welcome, just contact any of the Trustees.

The December Country and Western Dance will be on Saturday 7 Dec with Black Steel  commencing 8pm. Tickets are on the door and are £6.00 each. The doors open at 7pm, the bar will open at 7.45pm and there will as even be a BBQ.

After more than 40 yrs, this is the final dance of this nature to be held. Thank you to everyone who has supported the dances over the years, not least of course those who have organised it, in particular June Pettit. Thank you June!  Have a great night out all.

Cockfield Community Cinema will be showing Blinded by the Light at the Village Hall on Friday 13 December, 7.00pm for 7.30pm (earlier in the month than normal, in order to avoid the busy Christmas period).

A teenager writes poetry as a way to escape the intolerance of his hometown and the stubborn views of his traditional father. When a classmate introduces him to the music of Bruce Springsteen, he sees parallels between the singer’s powerful lyrics and his own environment.

Tickets are £4.50 on the door and along with the bar there are teas and coffees as well as ice-creams and sweets.

The Community Council AGM will take place on Fri 29 November. The Community Council relies on volunteers and we are always looking for people to join the Trustees, bring new ideas and help at events. There are 6 meetings every year, and we are a very welcoming group.  You can do as much or as little as you like. Do please speak with any of the Trustees (details on the Village website) if you are interested in joining.

This year the Community Council is funding a Christmas Tree on Great Green. This is planned to be installed on the Green in early/mid December. Watch out for further details.

The year ends with Carols on the Green on 17 December. Beginning at 7pm on Great Green by the Pavilion (and Xmas tree!) with light refreshments provided.

Waste Paper Collections continue on the last Sunday of the month, the next waste paper collection being on Sunday 29 December, as usual collections will start at 9.00 am. Please leave your papers out for the collectors in a prominent position. Proceeds from the collections go towards the running costs of the Pavilion and are therefore very valuable to the Village.

The New Year begins on 1st January with our popular Hangover Hike, this year starting at the Horseshoes Inn at 10.45am.
