Suffolk Village of the Year 2023

Parish Council July Meeting Report

The Parish Council met on Thursday 28th July 2016.

It was noted that following the departure of the Chief Executive of Babergh and Mid Suffolk Councils, her role will be temporarily taken over by the Chief Executive of Suffolk County Council pending the recruitment of a replacement.

The Greens Committee reported the following actions.

  • New bushes have been fitted to the see-saw, and the RoSPA inspection of the play equipment is planned for September
  • New seats will be fitted to the junior swings
  • The Great Green bus shelter is in the process of being painted and this will continue to the slide and swings
  • Arrangements have been made to improve the laybys on Great Green

The new Pavilion Management Committee will hold its first meeting on 3rd August.

The Parish Council discussed the condition of the Abbey footpath and agreed to investigate the situation with a view to devising a plan for ongoing maintenance.

Disatisfaction with the quality of verge maintenance led to the Council agreeing to approach the County Council to investigate ways of improving the situation.

Work to improve the southbound bus stop at Mill Corner did not commence as scheduled on 25th July. We have, as yet, received no information regarding a new start date. When work does commence it will last for 2 weeks, during at least the first week of which Howe Lane will be closed during the working day. Traffic on the A1141 will be controlled by temporary traffic lights. Alternative routes will be identified by yellow diversion signs.

It was noted that the Police reporting was unlikely to improve and policing efforts continue to be focused in the Sudbury area.

A communication has been received advising that the Sudbury Citizens Advice Bureau will hold a drop in session at Lavenham Village Hall between 9.30 am and 12.30 pm on every 2nd Wednesday in the month, starting in August. No appointments are necessary.

The next meeting of the Parish Council will take place on Thursday 29th September at 7.30 pm.
