Background

Cockfield CEVCP School

Cockfield Primary School was founded in 1856 as a National School to meet the educational needs of the children of Cockfield. The school serves the needs of the 4-9 year age group from the villages of Cockfield, Thorpe Morieux, Bradfield Combust, Bradfield St Clare and Bradfield St George. Most children over 9 years old continue their education at Beyton Middle School and then go on to Thurston Community College at 13.

There was significant remodelling of the school during 1975/76 which involved co-operation between the community and the Education Authority. This resulted in the splendid Hall which is shared between the school and the local community.

The actions of everyone in school have the following aims:

  1. To provide a safe, happy, family atmosphere conducive to learning in its widest context.
  2. To deliver a broad and balanced curriculum which offers every individual a high standard of achievement academically, physically, socially, morally and spiritually.
  3. To establish within the children an awareness of their place in the school, in the community, and in society at large.
  4. To encourage within each child a responsible attitude towards themselves and towards others.
  5. To encourage the development of confidence within each child and to generate opportunities which will challenge each one to positively extend their experiences.

CATEY Pre-School

Established in 1994, at CATEY Pre-School children from the age of 2 years are given the opportunity to learn, explore and discover skills through play in a safe and secure environment before they join school. In our friendly atmosphere, the children are able to build their confidence, learn to communicate, co-operate, share and enjoy the company of other children and adults. They also enjoy playing in our garden and can keep dry under the new covered outside area.

We enjoy close links with Cockfield CEVCP School making it an easy transition for when your child starts at school full time. The children enjoy ‘story sessions’ with the younger members of the school and once they reach ‘Rising 4 or 5’ are able to spend a full morning in school each week. Pre-school and School children can also join our Breakfast Club which runs from 7.50 a.m. Mon - Fri, and stay after school until 4.30 p.m.

Friends of Cockfield School Association

focsa logo

FOCSA (Friends of Cockfield School Association) was formed around 25 years ago. The aims of FOCSA are to raise funds to provide those ‘little extras’ which include equipment and activities for the children not covered within the main school budget.

Our many successful fundraising activities have included ladies pamper evenings, sponsored walks, plants sales and stalls at Cockfield Fete and St Peter’s Church Fayre.

In recent years we have paid for a variety of things including: children’s Christmas presents, coaches for school trips, annual school outings and dictionaries for year 4 children.

The success of the fundraising is only made possible by the help and support of parents and friends, enabling us to improve the facilities that benefit our children and future children. New members are vital to ensure that this valuable support continues for many years to come.
