Community Council News, June 2017

Grand Car Boot Sale – Great Green – Sunday 2nd July!!

On Sunday 2nd July we’re holding a Car Boot Sale on Great Green. The sale will run from midday to 3 pm and admission will be free to all buyers. Selling pitches will be available from 11.30am and will cost £5 per pitch. Refreshments will be available and there will also be a Community Council stall for which donations will be very welcome.

Please come along as a buyer or seller and support our efforts to raise funds for projects which benefit the community (you may not be aware, but this year we have already supported the Village Hall by  donating £1,000 for the installation of wi-fi and committed another £1,650 for the installation of window blinds – we have also agreed to make a substantial contribution to the refurbishment of the toilets)’

Cockfield Art Show

The third Cockfield Art Show took place over the Bank Holiday weekend of 27th/28th and 29th May and proved to be the most successful so far, selling over £4,500 worth of artwork from the 100 plus artists who displayed with us. The event ran really smoothly and we received very positive comments from both our visitors and the artists, so thanks are due to everyone who contributed to the enormous effort required to set up and run this event . We’ve already had enquiries about next year’s Show so it looks as though this is now a permanent feature of the Cockfield calendar!!

Cockfield Community Cinema

Our July show, on Friday   th  July  is A United Kingdom. The blinds referred to above will be installed by then and, with the improvements to the sound quality, we are confident that the show will be a pleasant experience for everyone. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start and admission is £4.50 adults, £3.00 under 16s.

In August, we will present an additional film with an afternoon showing of Beauty and the Beast. This will be free to children and their accompanying  adults. Then, in the evening, we will be showing The Sense of an Ending at the usual time and with our usual admission prices – all this happens on Friday 25th August.

See the Cockfield Cinema page for full details.

Country & Western Evening

There are no Country & Western evenings in July and August but we will be back with a bang on Saturday 2nd September with Kenny Lee & Hustler. Kenny and the boys are one of our most popular bands and we’re looking forward to a great evening. Tickets will be at the usual price of £6 on the door and there will, of course, be a bar and barbecue.

The Village Show at Clipt Bushes will be on Sunday 10th September with a dance to live music to suit all tastes with Kevin Barry on Saturday 23rd September and a Quiz Night on Saturday 18th November.

Carols on the Green is provisionally booked for 19th December.

Details of all these events will appear in Green Links, the Village website, www.Cockfield.org.uk and will be circulated through our Community Council e-mail distribution list. If you wish to be included on the list, which is an excellent source of information about local events, please apply through the website or by e-mail to rod.portwood@btinternet.com.
