Suffolk Village of the Year 2023

Community Council News, February 2017

Cockfield Community Council News

Since our last ‘News’ we’ve had two really successful events

The first show presented by  Cockfield Community Cinema was attended by over 60 filmgoers who thoroughly enjoyed Florence Foster Jenkins, not to mention the opportunity for socialising over a drink or ice cream during the interval. Our next show will be Bridget Jones’ Baby on Friday 24th February followed by Lady in the Van on Friday 24th March. Both shows start at 7.30 pm, with doors open at 7 pm. Admission (on the door) is £4.50 for adults and £3 for under 17s – refreshments will be available. Watch this space for details of our April show……….

The support for the first show was really encouraging for everyone who worked hard to get the Cinema off the ground so please continue to show your support for what we hope will become a popular event in the village – don’t forget, we’re always open to suggestions as to how we can provide even better events for everyone.

The following week over 100 C & W fans turned up for the visit of  Kevin Barry. Kevin is always popular and has a wide following throughout East Anglia and we’re looking forward to seeing him again on 23rd September when he’ll perform his 50s/60s and 70s repertoire (and anything else the audience wants). Why not put this date in your diaries and come along and see a great local artiste in action.

In April we have a new feature, Cockfield Under The Hammer. This is a live auction where you will be invited to bring your unwanted treasures along to the Village Hall where they will be auctioned off by our professional auctioneer. The way it works is that, on the morning of Saturday 22nd April, items will be brought along to the Hall to be itemised and set out. Viewing will take place during the afternoon and the auction will take place in the evening. Sellers will be charged 20% of the hammer price and there will be no buyers’ premium. There will be no reserves and we would ask would be sellers to take away any unsold items immediately after the auction.

 Country & Western evenings

On Saturday 4th March another favourite,  Budgie Colman will be with us. Tickets, as always, will be £6, on the door, and there will be a licensed bar and barbecue. Doors open at 7.30 pm.

In April we see the return of Declan Gaynor and in  May Julie Dawn is back with us.

Do not miss these events in April

The annual Duck Race will take place on Easter Saturday 15th April in Earl’s Meadow. This event is great fun for all the family so come along and get competitive in our beautiful, tranquil (except when the Duck Race is on!!) meadow.

The, on Saturday 22nd April, as detailed above, we will be holding our 80/20 auction in the Village Hall. Come along and help clear your clutter (or, if you’re a buyer, add to your clutter).

Other dates for your diaries

The Art Show will take place on 27th/28th/29th May, this will be our third show and we very much hope that we will continue the success of lasts year’s event
