Suffolk Village of the Year 2023

Community Council News, August 2017

Cockfield Community Council News

The holidays are over, the kids are soon back at school, the nights are drawing in – it’s September! Do not despair though, your Community Council have a great line up of entertainment for everyone through the autumn. The highlight of the month is the Village Show at Clipt Bushes, courtesy of Barbara and Caroline Ruffell, on Sunday 10th. This will be  our fourth Show at Clipt Bushes and the weather has been really kind to us over the last three years….I don’t want to tempt providence, but let’s hope the sun will shine on us again this year and we are all able to enjoy this traditional village entertainment. We also have two dances, both of which feature extremely high quality acts, well known throughout East Anglia, and of course we will have a film show presented by Cockfield Community Cinema. All these events require a lot of effort from our Trustees and our band of volunteers, and we can always use extra hands – so if you’d like to get involved, please contact any one of the Trustees and make yourself known.

Cockfield Community Cinema

Hopefully, by the time you read this, you and the children of the village will have enjoyed our double bill on Friday 25th August –the free showing of Beauty and the Beast, mainly for the children, in the afternoon and

The Sense of an Ending at the usual time and with our usual admission prices in the evening.

Friday 29th September Their Finest

The shows have been really well supported since we started at the beginning of the year, so thank you to everyone who has helped or attended as this means we can continue what has proved to be a popular social event.

Country & Western Evening

The Country & Western evenings are  back with a bang on Saturday 2nd September with Kenny Lee & Hustler. Kenny and the boys are one of our most popular bands and we’re looking forward to a great evening. This is followed on Saturday 7th October by the return of Cardy & Coke. Tickets will be at the usual price of £6 on the door and there will, of course, be a bar and barbecue.

Cockfield Village Show

The Village Show at Clipt Bushes will be on Sunday 10th September with a full programme of events – the flower, produce and handicraft show, the childrens’ entertainer and a dog show not to mention an entertainment by the children of Cockfield School and other surprise events. The Show will be preceded by a Church Service at 11.30 and will open at 12.00. As I remarked above, we always we will need helpers on the day – if you are prepared to give up an hour or so that afternoon please give your name to Barbara at the Post office.

Dance to Kevin Barry

On Saturday 23rd September ,  Kevin Barry will be back to entertain us. Kevin has a wide repertoire of songs and performs regularly all over East Anglia – as a seasoned professional entertainer he tailors his performance to what hits the spot with the audience – so whether it’s 50s, 60s, 70s or 80s there’ll be something for everyone. Tickets will be £6 on the door and there will be a licensed bar and barbecue.

Quiz Night will be  on Saturday 18th November. Watch this space for more details.

Our AGM will take place on Friday 1st December in the Village Hall at 7.30. This is the meeting when we review the past year’s efforts and elect our Trustees and officers. Everyone is welcome to attend so please come along and show your support for the Community Council and maybe even get involved.

Carols on the Green is provisionally booked for 19th December.

Details of all these events will appear in Green Links, the Village website, www.Cockfield.org.uk and will be circulated through our Community Council e-mail distribution list. If you wish to be included on the list, which is an excellent source of information about local events, please apply through the website or by e-mail to rod.portwood@btinternet.com

Waste paper collection

The next waste paper collections will be on Sunday 27th August and Sunday 24th September.  As usual, collections will start at 9.00 am. As always, these collections are an important source of funds for the Community Council so please leave your papers out for the collectors.
