Suffolk Village of the Year 2023

Cockfield Community Council News May 2017

Cockfield Under the Hammer turned out to be a most entertaining evening. Over 100 lots were sold by our guest professional auctioneer who kept the evening rolling along almost without stopping for breath. A successful evening with some people asking when the next one will be!!!

Minibus

As most of you will have heard, Cockfield Garage is closing. This is a sad event for the village and it also presents us with a problem regarding the operation of the minibus. For many years L R Wyard-Scott Ltd has provided safe parking for the bus, maintained it, fuelled it and taken the bookings and we are grateful to Adrian and Sue for their efforts – thank you.

Carl has kindly agreed that the new home for the minibus will be Hewick’s Haulage on the A134 (post code IP30 0LJ). They will take the bookings, hold the keys and provide the same service as the garage. From 1st June  the bus will be located there and bookings can be made on 01284 826020 or 07789933786 during normal working hours – the operation of the bus for users will be otherwise unchanged.

Cockfield Community Cinema

Since we started in January, the Cinema in the Village Hall has been really well supported. Julie and her team have worked really hard to bring films to the village that will have a very wide appeal. However, we are aware that, with the lighter evenings, the shows have suffered from light infiltration into the Hall and that the sound requires improvement. We are working on both these issues and will be making improvements in the near future.

So please, continue supporting the Cinema – we are determined to improve the experience and hope to be able to continue well into the future with your support.

The next film, which will be shown on Friday 23rd June is Lion – doors open at 7pm for a 7.30 pm start – click here to view the trailer.

 Cockfield Art Show

The third Cockfield Art Show will take place on 27th/28th and 29th May in the Village Hall. Almost 100 artists will be displaying their work so there is sure to be something for everyone there. The show is open from 10 am to 4pm on all three days and refreshments and light lunches will be available. Admission is free.

Country & Western Evening

On Saturday 3rd June our Country & Western evening will feature Country Law. Tickets, as always, will be £6, on the door, and there will be a licensed bar and barbecue. Doors open at 7.30 pm.

This will be our last C & W evening before our summer break but we will be back on Saturday 2nd September with Kenny Lee & Hustler

Car Boot Sale

We will be holding a Grand Car Boot Sale on Great Green on Sunday 2nd July. This will run from midday to 3 pm and there will be no admission charge – sales pitches will be £5.00 per car, to be paid on the day (no pre-booking required). The Community Council will run a bric-à-brac stall for which all contributions will be welcome.

The Village Show at Clipt Bushes will be on Sunday 10th September with a 50s/60s/70s dance featuring Kevin Barry on Saturday 23rd September and a Quiz Night on Saturday 18th November

Carols on the Green is provisionally booked for 19th December

Details of all these events will appear in Green Links, the Village website, www.cockfield.org.uk and will be circulated through our Community Council e-mail distribution list.
